Big kids still want to play and have fun, even adults. Play is another language that keeps families together even when tweens and teens stop talking to you for a while.

Look for games that involve competition, problem solving and strategy. Board games, card games, dice games, word games and number games are perfect at this stage. Your child will also be interested in anything electronic from drones to robotics and video games. Even though your child is going to start making their own way in the world, they still want to be able to come back to the safe harbour – that’s you.

Use play to continue building strong relationships with your child. It is a bonding agent, a type of glue that keeps you together because of the laughter, competition and fun memories you continue to make with them.
